Taking Action, Achieving Results

By Rick Kiel

The Road to Results

The road to results is paved with clear goals, a committed team, and alignment of resources. A well-paved road is not, however, the goal. The goal is achievement of results; and for that, we need action.

But first, a few words about the journey and preparing to depart.

Paving the Way

In order to achieve success, an organization must know where it is going and how it is going to get there: You must develop a clear vision, operate with a current strategic plan, and mobilize your team for action. If your company has not laid this groundwork or it has been a while, you may want to consider investing some time in initiating or updating this important work. Win-Win has facilitated high-impact strategic planning for numerous organizations that have benefited greatly from this process.

Moving Forward

Developing a detailed action plan is essential to a successful implementation of your strategic objectives. By including your team in the development of this action plan, you make sure the best ideas are generated, maximize buy-in, and set the stage for accountability. An effective action plan will include the following specifics for each goal in your strategic plan:

  • Action Steps - specific tasks to be accomplished

  • Timeline – completion date for each step

  • Accountability – responsible lead for the individual action step or entire goal area

  • Resources – team members, information, etc. needed to complete this task

  • Metrics – method to measure completion and outcome

This approach is not complex but you might be surprised at how few organizations take the time to plan for action and then follow through. In our experience with this work, a key to success is the way the process is managed, including educating people along the way and ensuring buy-in to decisions by involving team members in the process. Win-Win has helped a wide variety of organizations realize the power of this process.

Getting There

The final key to successful implementation is regular follow-up on the action plan, ensuring accountability, rallying resources and support, and making any needed course corrections along the way. With continued monitoring of the plan and follow through, you will soon see the results you envisioned and be ready for the last critical step: Celebrating success! After the party, of course, it is time to evaluate your work, update the plan, and move forward with taking your business to the next level. We wish you all the best in your journey.

Plan for Sucess. Plan for Future.
